Virgil Abloh’s lecture at the GSD in 2017 is really fun to watch. He shows a lot of different project types; from shoes to furniture to spaces. What stands out most about his approach is the eagerness to work with what’s already been established, and to iterate quickly while not getting hung up on any single aspect of the design. If nothing else, this guy makes stuff… lots of stuff. His “cheat code” slides are also an interesting way to bring some fun back into the standard design lecture format. His work has an element of fun and playfulness to it; something that’s sometimes lost during the process of creating something that is then presented to others (clients, critics, colleagues, employers). Super inspirational.
